Gratitude
This post must begin with an attempt to express my gratitude through writing :) It was so lovely to spend the Friday before our break with our class doing projects and sharing conversations that we typically have little time for. Homemade family treats, thoughtful notes, and special gifts filled my heart! I am sitting here with a great candle one of you gave me as I type :) I truly appreciate the warmth and generosity from all of you. Thank you! It fuels me up :)
A special thanks to Carolyn H., Ilene T, and Kristi B for making our special event happen (and the clean up after!)
Another special thanks to Aubrey, Andrew, and Sadie R for teaching our class about Jewish holiday tradition! Each student took home a candle, dreidel, and some gelt! We played dreidel until the bell kicked us out for the day!

Welcome Finn W! We are THRILLED to welcome Finn and his family to our classroom! We already feel as though he's been with us all along :) Finn is just days in to his arrival to Seattle after moving from Switzerland! We are having a blast learning fun differences in our English as well as hearing him share French with us. Finn has a younger brother in Ms. Cryan Leary's classroom, too! I look forward to introducing Finn and his family at our next gathering. | Home Study Packet (& Memorizing Multiplication!) Students came home with a packet of practice to work on over the break. This included a reading challenge and math work (including pages from our curriculum workbook). This was not required work, however, after we check it out this week, I plan to send it back home. I encourage you to complete the work at your own pace as it is excellent practice. STUDENTS SHOULD BE WORKING AT HOME TO MEMORIZE MULTIPLICATION FACTS- NIGHTLY! We ask students to memorize very little anymore. Multiplication facts are a necessity for fluent math work and preparation for upper grades. This takes a nightly commitment. Please see the resource packet sent home at Fall conferences. We can do this! |
1:1 - It's where we are going!
1:1 is the term often used to describe a program where every student has their own iPad as a tool at school. Mr. Elliott has sent out information about this program. Please let me know if you have any questions about the logistics. Word on the street says the ipads ARE HERE! Our tech guys are working hurriedly to get them programmed and ready for kids. Any day now.
The excitement and novelty of this is as new to most of us teachers as it will be for kids! We have great mentors from our 1st grade team and are collaborating to plan for this great addition. Those who have implemented a 1:1 program already share that the best part is the organic creativity that comes from students. They often operate and extend thinking in ways we can't yet imagine :)
I'm looking forward to his adventure and sharing all that happens with you!

Typing Agent was introduced to students by Mr. Jeffery today and we sent students home with tiny cards that list their personalized login credentials. Hold on to this little paper :) This is a great program to schedule in to your home routine. (Along side reading, ST Math, and fact fluency practice! There may not be assigned homework but there is plenty we hope you are doing!) Please refer to Mr. Jeffery's blog for all the details and instructions. http://www.qaelibrary.org/blog |
